Student Conduct FAQ - COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Information

In order to promote social distancing to limit the spread of COVID-19, the Office of Student Conduct is currently operating remotely. Our commitment to serving our students and the greater university community continues. We will update this information as our circumstances change. If you have additional questions after reading this page, please contact our office at studentconduct@vt.edu and one of our staff members will do their best to assist you.

Is Student Conduct still open?

Although staff may be working remotely, our work continues. Staff members are available as usual during normal business hours, Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm, and reachable by email or phone. My conduct case is still open and unresolved. What will happen? We are conducting hearings and meetings by phone and Zoom. A member of our staff will reach out to assist you with scheduling and participating in a meeting. If you have questions or concerns about your case, please contact the coordinator for your case directly or contact our office at studentconduct@vt.edu. We appreciate your understanding as we adjust our processes to meet these ever-changing circumstances.

I have sanctions due soon. What should I do?

We understand that other circumstances may be affecting your ability to complete your sanctions on time. We also recognize that you may not be able to complete some of them because they require you to meet with other offices on campus. Your hearing officer will work with you to develop an alternative plan to complete your sanctions. Please email your hearing officer directly to request an extension or modification of your sanctions. If you do not remember who your hearing officer was, please email studentconduct@vt.edu.

I have a student conduct related hold on my student account. What should I do?

You should email your hearing officer directly for assistance with student conduct related holds. If you are unsure about who is your hearing officer, please check your Virginia Tech email account for Maxient Correspondence from hearing officer prior to contacting Student Conduct for assistance. If you still need assistance, please email studentconduct@vt.edu.

I need to submit a conduct referral for a student who may have violated university policies. What should I do?

As always, we ask you to submit a conduct referral/complaint via email using studentconduct@vt.edu . Our first concern is the safety and well-being of our students. If you are reporting an immediate danger to the health and safety of yourself and/or others, please call Virginia Tech Police (VTPD) at 540-231-6411 or dial 911.

I need to request my student conduct records. What should I do?

Our office can process your request virtually. Please refer to the Disciplinary Record Certifcation Form. We will not be able to respond to faxed or physically mailed requests or to send responses via fax or physical mail until further notice. Government agencies interested in having a conduct/disciplinary check completed for security clearance should email studentconduct@vt.edu.

I called the main telephone number (540-231-3790), but no one answered. What should I do?

The best way to contact our office is via email, either studentconduct@vt.edu or by emailing your hearing officer directly. While we are monitoring the main phone number, staff may not be able to answer when you call. Please leave a voicemail message with the following information: (1) your full name, (2) your student ID number, (3) a callback number, and, (4) the reason for your call.
