Welcome to Virginia Tech!

Orientation at Virginia Tech is a hybrid program that combines virtual experiences and in-person events for new Hokies to engage in a variety of ways.

Weeks of Welcome

Weeks of Welcome (WoW) is the in-person portion of our extended orientation and transition experience – and the official start of the Virginia Tech academic and co-curricular experience for new Hokies. WoW offers incoming students exciting events and social opportunities during the first week of move-in through the first week of classes. It serves as a transition into university life and a hub for students to find their place at Virginia Tech.

Students who attend WoW events will:

  • Feel an increased sense of belonging in their community
  • Get connected to campus resources
  • Learn about programs and organizations they might be interested in joining
  • Be provided with tools and guidance to support their well-being
  • Feel familiar with VT campus culture and traditions
  • Get oriented to academics on campus and feel prepared to start their academic semester
  • Have the opportunity to practice Ut Prosim (That I May Serve

Events to look forward to:

  • Mandatory College and Academic Sessions (including College Social)
  • Residential Well-being Community Meetings & Commuter Student Meetings
  • Living-learning Programming (only for students in a Living-Learning Community)
  • Hokie Hi Spirit Rally
  • Transfer Student Luncheon
  • International Student Orientation
  • Resource Fairs and Gobblerfest, our annual club/organization fair
  • Plus, many social events including dance parties, movie nights, RecFest, cultural center events, and more!

Event details and the full schedule will be available in the Hokies On Track app.

Are you a new Hokie starting school in the spring semester? Don’t worry, you aren’t missing out on the fun! Winter Weeks of Welcome (WWoW) is our spring semester transitional experience. Additionally, we host an in-person spring orientation program on the Friday before the first day of classes in January. This is time for you to get connected to your peers, resources, and services on campus. This is optional, but highly encouraged. Registration opens late in the fall semester and will be emailed to you.
